The official highlight film and full social video library for a Latin cultural festival in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Unity in Action is a nonprofit serving and empowering Latino, immigrant, and refugee communities. They partnered with me to produce the official highlight film and full social video library for Celebrate Siouxland, an annual cultural festival featuring traditional dance groups, local artisans, community organizations, food vendors, and live performances.
The goal was a cinematic recap that didn’t just preserve the event. It had to capture the heart of the community, the pride of Siouxland’s multicultural identity, and the mission behind UIA’s work.
The challenge
- A large festival with continuous, overlapping activities
- Bilingual representation and cultural accuracy
- Documentary authenticity with cinematic quality
- Shooting for many end uses at once: recap film, social clips, B-roll library, grant reporting, and archive
Approach
I planned the production around movements and emotional beats, people first and environment second:
- Hero shots of dancers and performers
- Candid micro-moments of families, kids, and local artists
- Vendor storytelling through close-ups, textures, and hands-on action
- Lens-based transitions to build a cohesive emotional arc
- Quick pickup sequences to complete the footage library
Handheld and stabilized movement kept the footage dynamic and inviting.
What they got
- The official highlight film (horizontal)
- Vertical social reels: event recap and performer features
- A full B-roll library sorted by vendors, performances, family activities, cultural demonstrations, and community partners
- Thumbnail-ready stills pulled from the footage
- Grant-ready archival footage for future reporting
Impact
Unity in Action now has a content library they can use across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, fundraising campaigns, annual reports, partnership presentations, and future festival promotion. The highlight film increased engagement and helped position Celebrate Siouxland as a signature cultural event.
Tools: Fujifilm and Sony hybrid kit, on-board and ambient audio, DaVinci Resolve, Photoshop for thumbnails, CapCut for quick vertical cuts. Film-inspired LUTs with warm tonality to keep the culture’s color alive.
